Practical information
What to check before booking
The cylinder is the part into which you insert the key. On many doors it can be replaced separately from the lock body. A rim lock is mounted visibly on the door face; a mortise lock sits inside the door edge. A photo of that edge often helps identify the type.
A multipoint lock closes at several points. A stiff handle could indicate door alignment, the mechanism or the cylinder, so full replacement is not always necessary. Electronic locks also have power and access controls to check according to the manufacturer instructions.
Before buying parts, note any readable brand, key shape, cylinder dimensions and door opening direction. A locksmith can confirm compatibility on site. Ask for diagnostic work, labour and parts to be priced separately.
