What to check before booking
Standard flat and reversible keys use different profiles. Some protected cylinders require an ownership card or authorisation to make a copy. A building access badge depends on its administrator; a locksmith cannot always duplicate it.
If the lost key was with documents showing your address, the risk differs from losing an unidentifiable key. Tell the landlord or building manager about a shared entrance. For a private door, replacing the cylinder may be enough, depending on the mechanism.
Do not order a replacement cylinder based on the key shape alone. Note any readable reference, take a photo and ask what proof is required. A clear quote should state travel, proposed model and number of keys included.
